Spring Concerts
Spring really can hang you up the most in Fargo, with sub-zero temperatures followed by prospects of floods as the mighty Red River thaws. However, in Spring 2011 a brisk schedule of concerts, clinics and recording projects promises to keep weather concerns at bay. At “Studio 222”, Fargo’s long-standing jazz venue, The Simon Rowe Trio (Bill Law-Bass, Allen Carter-Drums, Simon Rowe-Piano) and The Simon Rowe Organ Trio (Nick Fryer-Guitar, Joel Thompson-Drums, Simon Rowe-Organ) continue to host regional and national artists. Highlights of the upcoming season include performances with bassist Anthony Cox and drummer Peter Erskine (see schedule). Also on the bill at 222 is a live recording with “The Willie Akins Quartet” comprising Willie Akins on saxophone, Montez Coleman (of the Roy Hargrove group) on drums, Willem Von Hombracht on bass and myself on piano. Our jazz education mission continues with more performances and clinics in regional schools throughout Minnesota and North Dakota. Please take a moment to see our video clip(s) from the educational DVD collaboration with Spider and Company entitled “Live at the Hodo” with the Simon Rowe Trio.
